Green Bag Volunteer-Hunger Relief

Dear Neighbor,
In the past few years since the recession hit, the face of hunger is changing. Food banks are now seeing people who have never had to ask for assistance before come through their lines. Locally, our food banks have experienced an increase in demand as much as 18%. One in four children in the Wenatchee area is hungry, as well as one in ten adults.

The North Central Washington Food Distribution Center, run by the Chelan-Douglas CommunityAction Council, distributes food to 12 local area food banks and 5 meal programs. They distributed over 1.1 million pounds of food last year, but still that is not enough to reach the high demand they’ve been experiencing.

Is there a way to reach out to your neighbors and help provide a steady supply of food for our food banks?

We think so — with the program you see right here! or Call 509-860-4334

We’ll give you this cool green bag, and all you do is add non-perishable food items. We’ll pick it up and deliver it to food banks. This program has been a great success in other Washington communities, as well as in Oregon and California.

With Your Help:
Three Simple Steps:
1. Each time you go shopping, buy one extra non-perishable food item.
2. Store it in your reusable bag.
3. On the second Saturday of every other month, a volunteer will pick up the bag, leave another bag in its place, and take the filled bag to a food bank.
